Ascension Bay
Ascension Bay, located within the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve—a Mayan term translating to "gateway to paradise"—upholds the esteemed status of a Mexican National Park since 1986 and earned recognition from UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1987.
The inhabitants of this ecological haven range from graceful manatees, dolphins, crocodiles, over 400 bird species, sea turtles, and the elusive jaguar. The waters extend over 1700 sq km, encompassing the bay, inshore reef, various lagoons, mangrove islands, and sand flats.
